Ausstellung / München: Open Westend

Eine Initiative von 50 Künstlern aus dem Münchner Westend

Das OPEN WESTEND, Münchens einzigartige Künstlerinitiative wie – offensive, geht in diesem Jahr vom 27.- 29. März in die 8. Runde, ist also nicht weit von einem wohlverdienten Jubiläum entfernt. So wie sich der Stadtteil des Geschehens, die Schwanthalerhöhe im Westen Münchens, in den vergangenen neun Jahren wandelte, entwickelte sich auch das OPEN WESTEND. Wurde das einstige Messegelände, neben der Theresienwiese gelegen, durch Bürobauten und schöne Wohnungen ersetzt, erarbeitete sich das OPEN WESTEND einen Status als professionell durchgeführte Aktion mit jährlich mehr als 5000 Besuchern. Geboten werden Malerei, Bildhauerei, Kunsthandwerk, Modedesign, Installationen sowie Musik, es werden wieder ca. 50 Künstler und Künstlerinnen teilnehmen. Alles findet in den eigenen Räumen der Künstler oder in kommunalen Räumen des Stadtviertels statt, dazu gibt es einen zentralen Laden und Führungen, welche die Besucher auf einer günstigen Route durch die einstige Münchner Vorstadt führen. Stärker vorhanden denn je ist bei aller notwendigen Förderung durch die öffentliche Hand sowie Sponsoren dennoch der Grundgedanke der Unternehmung: Es sind die Künstler selber, die organisieren. Teilnehmen kann nur, wer wohnhaft im Westend ist, sämtliche Akteure sind daher beständig und ganzjährig vor Ort tätig. Dadurch ist das OPEN WESTEND immer auch Werk (-statt) - schau, die nachbarschaftliche wie lokale Prägung stellt es weit über austauschbare Massenevents. Doch auch wer im Münchner Westend vorallem ein neues Szenequartier sieht: Jeder neue Besucher ist herzlich willkommen. Nur wenn sich alte Strukturen mit neuen Gästen verbinden, kann etwas dauerhaft wirksames entstehen. Made in Westend: BY YOU!
